St. Mary’s palliative Care

St. Mary’s palliative Care Centre, Bhimavaram

A lot of us don’t put much thought into end-of-life or end-of-life care. Typically, it is something we don’t want to face or discuss. But it’s time we rethink this.

You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully but also to live until you die. -Cicely Saunders Founder of modern hospice

This quote illustrates why palliative care is so important. Many people fear dying in pain and want a peaceful death. However, many people don’t access palliative care until the last days of life. The end of life deserves as much beauty, care and respect as the beginning. — Anonymous

What Are the Benefits of Palliative Care:

Pain Management – Palliative care can provide relief from pain, discomfort, and other symptoms that may arise during treatment or illness

Improved Quality of Life – Palliative care focuses on improving the quality of life for patients with chronic illnesses by providing emotional support, helping manage symptoms, and providing spiritual guidance

Supportive Care Services – Palliative care services include not just medical treatments but also supportive services such as psychological counselling, bereavement counselling, and social work support.

why Bhimavaram needs palliative care ?

In the current landscape, Bhimavaram boasts numerous multi-specialty and super-specialty hospitals. However, we have observed a pressing need within the community, the desire of families to care for their elderly and terminally ill loved ones. Unfortunately, economic constraints and a shortage of personnel often hinder their ability to do so effectively. Consequently, many have approached us, expressing their wish for us to provide care for such patients within our hospital premises

Furthermore the recent establishment of the Omega cancer centre in Bhimavaram highlights the critical need for comprehensive palliative care. Our proposed palliative care center aims to cater to terminally ill cancer patients who cannot afford extensive medical care during their final stages. We aim to provide a peaceful and dignified death in a serene environment where patients can find solace and dignity as they approach the end of their lives.

St. Mary’sHospital was established in the year 1955 as a General Hospital and run by the Nirmala sisters (MSI).It is a charitable institute providing the best available medical services to all who approach us with affordable price. Bhimavaram is known for its availability of numerous multi-specialty and super-specialty hospitals. But there are no such centers where terminally ill and bedridden patients are taken care. Many people from the  local community have approached us, expressing their need  to provide care for these patients within our hospital premises.

After having listened to the need of the time we the Nirmala sisters  decided to  dedicate a section of the first floor of St.Mary’s hospital  Bhimavaram to establish an eight bedded palliative care unit.

In addition to inpatient services, we intend to offer outpatient and home care services, all at no cost to the patients
